Connecting from a public port / dormitories
Windows XP (Using PPPOE)

Building Your Connection


Step

 

  • Right-click on My Network Places either fom the desktop or from the start menu.

  • Click properties

  • Click on Create a New Connection.

  • Click Next

Step

 

  • Choose the Connect to the internet option.

  • Click Next

Step

 

  • Choose the Set up my connection manually option.

  • Click Next

Step

 

  • Choose the Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password option.

  • Click Next

Step

 

  • You will be asked for a company name. Type a connection name, such as: huji-dorms .

  • Click Next

Step

 

  • In the User name field type your username%ra

  • Click Next

Step

 

  • Mark Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.

  • Click Finish

Step

 

  • The following screen should appear (If it doesn't, double click the icon of your connection).

  • Click Properties

Step

 

  • Click the Networking tab

  • Uncheck File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

Step

 

  • Click the Security tab.

  • Choose the Advanced (custom settings).

  • Click Settings

Step

 

  • Choose the Allow these protocols option,

  • Mark the Unencrypted password (PAP) option.

  • Click OK

  • Click Yes

  • Click OK

Step

 

  • In the password field type
    your password (remember that you need to change the password every three months).

  • Click Connect

Ending the DORMS connection

Click Disconnect to terminate the connection.

 

  • When the DORMS connection is no longer needed you may disconnect by double clicking on the connection icon

  • Click on Disconnect
